If you want to optimize Windows 10, take a few minutes to try these tips to speed up your PC and make it less prone to performance and system issues.

Want Windows 10 to run faster? We’ve got help. You can try dozens of these baker’s tips in a matter of minutes. Your computer is faster and less prone to system and performance problems.

Why is Windows 10 slow to start after an update?

Before you jump into fixes, you need to know why your Windows boots up so slowly after an upgrade. Known culprits of the slow startup problem:

  • Malware or spyware
  • Windows autoloading programs
  • Fragmented files
  • Damaged system files
  • Incompatibility between your current drivers and the Windows 10 update
  • Incorrect configuration in BIOS

Run Windows Defender (or anti-virus software) to remove viruses and malware.

Viruses and malware attack your computer in various ways, such as: deleting files, encrypting folders, and allowing your computer to run slow. To check your computer for viruses or malware, you can use Windows Defender or the anti-virus software you have installed. How to use Windows Defender:

Step 1. Choose Settings > Update and Security > Windows Security.

Step 2. Click Virus and Threat Protection.

Step 3. Under Threat History, click Scan Now to scan your computer for viruses.

Step 4. If a virus or malware is found, remove it by following the instructions on the screen.

Consider the SSD and adjust the BIOS settings

When it comes to speed, SSDs are great for your PC. If you can afford one, you might want to get one later.

If you can’t afford it, you can change some BIOS settings to improve your boot procedure. For example, you can disable the BIOS check of your DVD drive or network folders every time it starts up and reduce boot time.

Few users have reported that this problem occurs because of the USB drive feature in the BIOS. This feature is used to boot your PC from a flash drive. If you don’t want it, just turn it off.

To find out how to find and disable this feature in the BIOS, we recommend that you read your motherboard manual.

Run the Windows Update Center’s troubleshooter.

Many users have reported problems with slow startup in Windows 10. According to users, this problem is caused by a corrupted Windows Update Center file. To solve this problem, all you need to do is to download the Windows Update Center Troubleshooter.

This is an official tool from Microsoft. So be sure to download it.

Once you run the tool, it should automatically fix all the issues and corrupted files. Once the troubleshooting is complete, check to see if the problem is resolved.

Disable programs that run at startup

One of the reasons why your Windows 10 computer may seem slow is because there are too many programs running in the background – programs that you rarely or never use. When you stop running them, your computer will run more smoothly.

Run Task Manager first: press Ctrl-Shift-Esc, right-click in the lower right corner of the screen and select Task Manager or type Task Manager in the Windows 10. search box and press Enter. If Task Manager starts as a compact tabbed application, click Details at the bottom of the screen. Then Task Manager is displayed in all its glory. There’s a lot you can do, but we’ll focus only on removing unnecessary programs that run at startup.

Click the Home tab. You’ll see a list of programs and services that run when Windows starts up. The list includes the name of each program and its editor, the ability to launch at startup, and its “impact at startup,” that is, how slow Windows 10 slows down during system startup.
